Who We Are

Cultural Heritage Management Australia (CHMA) has been delivering comprehensive and effective cultural heritage management services and advice Australia-wide since 1993.

We have deep expertise in the assessment and management of Indigenous and post-contact/historic cultural heritage and have successfully completed more than 1,400 projects across Australia. These have ranged in scope from simple desktop assessments to high-profile national infrastructure developments spanning multiple states.

CHMA’s greatest strength is the expertise and diversity of its team, which includes some of Australia’s most experienced heritage practitioners.

Our consultants have been chosen for their qualifications and skills across a diverse range of heritage specialisations including:

  • heritage assessment, planning and management
  • Indigenous archaeology
  • historical archaeology and research
  • marine archaeology
  • Indigenous community engagement
  • artefact analysis and conservation
  • bone and tissue analysis
  • geospatial technology and geographic information systems
  • photogrammetry/computerised 3-D modelling
  • soil analysis and stratigraphy.

And in addition to our core team, CHMA also has a network of specialist associate experts, who provide project-specific advice as required.

Since 1993, our team has provided professional heritage services for more than 1,400 projects spanning every State and Territory in Australia.  We continue to operate Australia-wide, with bases in Tasmania, New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory and Queensland.

CHMA is committed to ensuring that Indigenous stakeholders can engage meaningfully and effectively in projects impacting their cultural heritage. We implement and promote best practices in Indigenous consultation. Our consultants work closely with Aboriginal communities across Australia and we value the strong professional ties we have developed with these groups.
